Goat Farming Trainings

Empowering Goat Farmers Through Farm Visits, Training & Field Exposure

At Dikshya Foundation, in collaboration with World Wide Goat Project Nepal (WWGPN), we are committed to uplifting rural goat farmers through practical, hands-on support. Our approach includes regular farm visits, tailored training sessions, and exposure trips to model farms across Nepal.

This program helps farmers build their skills, improve animal health, and increase income from goat farming.

🐐 Farm Visits: Understanding Farmers on the Ground

We regularly visit goat farms in remote villages with a team of experts and volunteers to offer support and monitor progress.

During these visits, we:

  • Observe the health status of the goats
  • Check the condition and cleanliness of the sheds (goat pans)
  • Ensure clean drinking water is available 24/7
  • Distribute basic veterinary supplies like deworming medicine
  • Identify issues for future training sessions

“Cleanliness and constant water supply are essential for healthy goats—this is our key message during every visit.”

πŸ› οΈ Hands-On Training: Practical Skills for Everyday Farming

Based on farm observations, we design training programs that are relevant and easy to apply. These sessions are interactive and focus on real challenges faced by farmers.

Training Topics Include:

  • Hoof trimming and castration techniques
  • Goat shed design and site planning
  • Care for mother goats during kidding
  • Use of worm medicine, electrolytes, and mineral supplements
  • Clean water and hygiene maintenance
  • Disease prevention and herd health management

We also provide tools and kits to farmers so they can practice these techniques on their own farms.

🧳 Field Trips: Learning from Government Farms

We organize educational field trips to leading goat farms such as the National Goat Research Program (NGRP) in Bandipur, Tanahun, operated under the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC).

What Farmers Learn:

  • Herd selection and breeding strategies
  • Hands-on experience with hoof trimming and castration
  • Goat care during birth and lactation
  • Importance of salt, water, and minerals in goat health

After a recent visit to Bandipur, farmers returned with a deep appreciation for the role of minerals and salt in animal well-being. Following this, we distributed mineral and salt packs with storage boxes to the participating farmers. Today, these resources are accessible to their goats every day—a small change with a big impact.

🌱 Impact at a Glance
